Balenciaga Rodeo Bag Review
The First Balenciaga Bag That Felt Like Me
The moment the Balenciaga Rodeo came out, it captured my attention almost immediately.
Which is interesting, because I had never really considered myself a Balenciaga bag person.
I've always appreciated the brand. I understand why the Le City, the Hourglass, and later the Le Cagole became so influential, but they never felt like me. I admired them, but I never had the urge to actually get one.
Until the Rodeo.
Something about it felt different. Maybe because, out of all the Balenciaga bags, this one felt quieter. I loved the shape, the turn-lock closure, the back pockets, the shoulder strap, the crossbody strap… I don't know, it just felt fresh. Every time I walked by a Balenciaga store, my eyes immediately went to the Rodeo.
And if I'm honest, deciding on one wasn't easy.
There are so many combinations…different sizes, colors, hardware options, leathers…and it's the kind of bag that makes you want several of them.
The Story Behind the Balenciaga Rodeo
Introduced in Fall 2024 during Balenciaga's Los Angeles presentation under Demna, the Rodeo marked a softer side of the brand.
Named after Rodeo Drive, the bag felt very California to me. Relaxed, effortless, luxurious without trying too hard.
While Balenciaga has always embraced more experimental and louder designs, the Rodeo brought something different to the table. Soft leather, a relaxed silhouette, exterior pockets, a turn-lock closure, and the ability to wear it on the shoulder or crossbody. It somehow felt familiar and new at the same time.
And women noticed almost immediately.
Very quickly, it started appearing everywhere. Fashion editors, celebrities, and women with incredible personal style began carrying it, often decorating it with charms and scarves and making it their own.
Part of the beauty of the Rodeo is that there isn't one way to wear it. Some women carry it fully closed, others leave it half open. Somehow both ways look equally cool.
Why The Rodeo Arrived at the Right Time
I think the Rodeo arrived at a very interesting moment in fashion. For years, bags became louder. Logos became bigger, shapes became instantly recognizable, and statement bags dominated almost everything.
And then women started gravitating toward something different. Not necessarily less luxurious, just quieter.
To me, the Rodeo feels made for women who love fashion, who appreciate beautiful leather goods, who enjoy shopping and collecting bags, but don't necessarily need their handbag to announce itself from across the room.
And I understand that. I love statement bags too. I think logos and iconic pieces will always have their place in our closets. Fashion would be boring without them.
But I also think many women have been embracing a different kind of chic lately. Good leather, beautiful proportions, subtle details, and bags that become part of your style instead of becoming the entire conversation.
Maybe that's why brands have been moving in that direction. Because women are responding to it.
Will the Rodeo become an icon for life like the Birkin or the Kelly?
Time will tell. Those bags earned their status over decades.
But I do think the Rodeo has the ingredients to become one of those bags people still talk about years from now.
Why I Finally Bought One
After going back and forth for months, I finally chose the Small size in khaki smooth calfskin with aged-silver hardware.
And I absolutely love it.
I didn't buy this bag as a work bag or a travel bag. I wanted something easy. Something I could grab for errands, lunch, grocery runs, shopping, or even a short weekend away.
Just an easy city bag.
And the Small size turned out to be perfect.
It's comfortable, lightweight, and fits much more than you'd expect without ever looking bulky. It has that relaxed slouch that makes the Rodeo special, but it still feels polished.
What Makes The Rodeo Different
The more I use it, the more I understand why so many women fell in love with this bag.
First, it's incredibly comfortable. The leather is soft and the bag sits naturally against the body.
Second, it's practical. The exterior pockets are actually useful, and the opening makes it easy to access everything inside.
But what I love most is its personality.
It's street style, yet chic. Relaxed, but refined. Subtle, but still unmistakably Balenciaga.
And that's probably why I find myself reaching for it so often.
Sizes and Variations
Today, the Rodeo is available in Mini, Small, Medium, Large, and XL sizes, although not every color, leather, or hardware combination is offered across the entire range. Depending on the season and finish, certain variations are exclusive to specific sizes.
You can find it in smooth leather, suede, canvas, different colors, and various hardware finishes.
Personally, I think the Large looks really cool.
In fact, I can already see myself adding another one eventually. Maybe black with aged-gold hardware. That combination feels like such a staple.
And knowing Balenciaga, I'm pretty sure we'll continue seeing new variations of this bag for years to come.
Final Thoughts
It wasn't my first Balenciaga purchase.
It was simply the first Balenciaga bag that felt like me.
I still appreciate the louder side of Balenciaga and understand why so many of its bags became icons. But the Rodeo feels different. It feels easier, softer, and somehow more timeless.
Maybe that's why it caught my attention so quickly.
Maybe that's why I spent months deciding on the right size and color.
And maybe that's why I have a feeling this won't be my last Rodeo.
