Inside the Audemars Piguet House in Mexico City

A different kind of space

We’ve been to the AP House in Mexico City several times now, and it’s pretty simple…we enjoy going.

Of course, part of it is the watches. Getting to see pieces up close, trying on things you don’t usually come across, and yes… thinking about what could be next.

But it’s also the whole experience around it. The space, the service, the conversations, the drinks…it just makes it easy to stay longer than you planned.

If you love watches and respect a brand like Audemars Piguet, it’s the kind of place you naturally want to go back to.

Inside the House

It’s located in beautiful Polanco, right next to Berger.

You walk into this nice, understated building, and there’s a hidden elevator that quietly takes you up to the House. It already starts to feel a little different before you even get there.

On the first floor, you’re welcomed into a beautiful salon. There’s a large wooden table, watches displayed perfectly as you walk in, a well-designed bar, and a cozy living room with a record player. You can even pick your favorite vinyl and play it…it’s such a small detail, but it makes the whole experience feel more personal.

You can choose where you want to sit, and each space has its own feel to it.

Nothing feels forced. It’s just well put together in a way that makes you want to stay.

Upstairs, it opens up into the terrace.

There’s another living room, a large wooden table where they host dinners and events, another bar…of course, and yes, a lot of tequila. From there, you can see Polanco, which makes it even nicer.

It’s one of those spaces where every detail is considered. The kind of place that makes you want to come back, or even take a few ideas for your own home.

My first Royal Oak

I’ve been around watches for a long time.

I used to work for a watch strap company, so imagine how many incredible pieces I got to see over time…handling them, styling them, wearing them. You start to understand what you actually like, beyond just what looks good.

And I always knew I wanted a Royal Oak.

Getting my first piece at the AP House in Mexico City made it even more special. It felt like the right place for it, and honestly, like a well-deserved moment after working towards it for quite some time.

I wanted my first AP to be a stainless steel automatic…something classic, something I could actually live with day to day.

I went for a 37mm stainless steel Royal Oak with a ruthenium-toned “Grande Tapisserie” dial, framed with 40 brilliant-cut diamonds on the bezel.

I wasn’t expecting the diamonds.

But it ended up making it even more me. It’s one of those pieces I can dress up or down, and somehow it always works. It just makes everything look a little better.

I love it.

How it feels to be there

This is the part I enjoy the most.

You go in because you want to see watches…properly. Not through a display, but on the wrist, taking your time with them, noticing details, going back and forth between them.

That’s something I really value. Having been around watches for a while, you start to appreciate the small things more, and being able to sit with a piece and actually understand it makes a big difference.

The environment just makes that easy.

You sit wherever you feel comfortable, you talk, you try things on, maybe have a coffee or a tequila. No one is rushing you, and that changes everything. You can take your time, compare, ask questions, or just enjoy the moment.

And every time, there’s something new to see. I usually try to push for the more special pieces…I really enjoy that part.

Sometimes it’s a watch you hadn’t considered before, sometimes it’s one you come back to. That’s what makes it interesting, you’re not just going in with one idea and leaving with it. You actually get to experience them the way you’re supposed to.

Another time there

My husband is really into watches…but in his own way.

He’s not necessarily drawn to the hype pieces. He just likes what he likes, and I’ve always appreciated that about him. He can be looking at a white gold Jumbo and still end up more interested in a stainless steel chronograph, if you know what I mean.

He’s not trying to impress anyone. He just wants to buy and wear what he genuinely enjoys.

He already had an Offshore…he loves chronos, the functionality, the sporty feel of those models. That’s always been more his lane.

But the Royal Oak started to grow on him.

After I got mine, I noticed he kept looking at it… mentioning it here and there, picking up on different details, complimenting it. It clearly caught his attention.

It didn’t take long before he started thinking about having one.

So this last time we were in Mexico City, he got his first Royal Oak.

He went for the cobalt blue “Grande Tapisserie” dial…such a good one. Classic, but with just enough presence.

We had a really nice time. Tried on a few pieces, talked through others, and of course… added more to the list.

Because that’s usually how it goes.

Why it’s worth visiting

If you love Audemars Piguet, or even if you’re just starting to get into it, this is such a good place to build that connection.

It’s not intimidating. It’s not overly formal. It’s actually inviting.

And honestly, Mexico City is one of the best cities to do it in.

The food, the energy, the shopping… it makes the whole experience feel like more than just going to see watches. It turns into a full day, or even a reason for a trip.

A reason to go

If you’re curious about the brand, I would absolutely recommend making an appointment and visiting the House.

It’s one thing to see these pieces online.
It’s something else entirely to experience them like this.

Some places sell watches.
Others make you want to come back.

Tell me if you do go.

With love, Barbara.
