Best East-West Bags Right Now

Collage of luxury east–west handbags including Chanel, Alaïa, Bottega Veneta, Miu Miu, and The Row featured in The Handbag Code article about the best east–west bags right now.

East–west bags are having a major moment again, and some of the best luxury brands are leaning into the shape right now. From Alaïa to Bottega Veneta, Prada, Miu Miu, The Row, and newer Chanel designs, elongated silhouettes are everywhere lately.

The shape itself isn’t new. Fashion has seen versions of it before through long shoulder bags, baguette silhouettes, and sleek underarm bags from the late 90s and early 2000s. But right now the proportions feel softer, cleaner, and much more refined.

It’s also a silhouette that works incredibly well on the body. East–west bags sit naturally under the arm, follow the line of the silhouette better, and almost feel more like an accessory than just something practical to carry.

These are the ones I keep coming back to lately.

Bottega Veneta | East-West Andiamo

I love the Bottega Veneta Andiamo east–west design because it keeps everything people already love about the Andiamo, but makes it feel even cleaner.

The longer silhouette works beautifully with Bottega’s softer leather and relaxed structure. It feels understated in that very specific Bottega way where the bag still makes a statement without needing logos everywhere.

One of my favorite quiet luxury bags right now.

Alaïa | Le Teckel & Le Click

The Alaïa Le Teckel became a staple almost immediately, and now the newer Alaïa Le Click continues that same elongated, sculptural direction.

What makes Alaïa especially interesting right now is how they keep evolving these now-iconic shapes through different leathers, textures, and shades each season. From smooth structured leather to softer finishes, suede variations, darker tones, and richer seasonal colors, the bags keep feeling fresh without losing the silhouette that made them recognizable in the first place.

The proportions are what make them work so well. Long bags can sometimes feel awkward, but Alaïa made these silhouettes feel elegant, intentional, and very natural on the body.

These are some of the bags that really pushed the east–west silhouette back into luxury fashion in a major way.

Prada | Bonnie Handbag

Prada has been doing elongated shoulder bags incredibly well lately, especially with bags like the Prada Bonnie Bag.

Some of the newer silhouettes feel very sleek and minimal without looking too simple. Prada always manages to make bags feel polished in a very effortless way, and the east–west shape works perfectly with that aesthetic.

Miu Miu | Arcadie Bag

Miu Miu’s approach to east–west bags feels younger and slightly more playful, especially with styles like the Miu Miu Arcadie.

A lot of their recent bags have that relaxed underarm silhouette that instantly makes an outfit feel cooler and less formal. The proportions feel very current without looking overly trendy.

The Row | India Bag

Nobody understands proportion quite like The Row.

The The Row Small E/W India Bag feels incredibly minimal, but the silhouette makes it stand out immediately. The elongated shape paired with The Row’s understated approach makes the entire bag feel very elevated and timeless.

It’s the kind of bag that quietly changes an outfit.

Chanel

Chanel has always been part of this conversation through the classic flap bag and many of its shoulder bag proportions over the years.

But the newer east–west silhouettes from the 2026 collections feel especially beautiful. There’s something softer and more relaxed about them while still keeping that unmistakable Chanel elegance. A lot of the newer bags from Matthieu Blazy’s direction already feel slightly more fluid and effortless on the body, which works perfectly with the east–west shape.

The new collection honestly made me appreciate even more how well Chanel understands proportion. Few brands make bags feel this elegant while still feeling wearable and modern at the same time.

East–west bags are one of those trends that instantly change the feeling of an outfit without trying too hard. They feel elegant, modern, and much more connected to the body, which is probably why so many luxury brands are embracing the shape right now.

And while some handbag trends disappear quickly, this one already feels much bigger than a passing moment to me.

With love, Barbara.
