The Designer Bags Defining Summer 2026
I love handbags year-round because every season brings a different mood, textures, colors, and silhouettes. Living in Miami makes seasonal dressing a little different since you don’t fully experience the dramatic wardrobe shifts of colder cities, but I still love paying attention to how handbags evolve throughout the year.
Traveling often is what really allows me to enjoy that side of fashion properly. Certain bags almost feel made for specific places and moments…raffia bags in the South of France, oversized totes during long travel days, suede near the Mediterranean, softer leather bags during warm summer nights.
And this summer feels especially exciting to me because I’ll be spending most of it moving around… a cruise this weekend, then Mallorca for cycling, beach days, beautiful calas, and after that, the South of France.
The bags defining Summer 2026 reflect that same energy. Softer, more relaxed, less polished. Raffia, suede, woven textures, oversized bags, rich brown leathers, and east–west silhouettes are shaping what fashion actually looks like this season.
Raffia Bags Feel More Luxurious Than Ever
Raffia bags used to feel very “beach vacation only.”
Now they’ve become one of the biggest luxury categories of the season.
The best ones feel elegant enough for city outfits, lunches, summer dinners, and travel days without losing that relaxed summer feeling. Loewe continues doing this beautifully, especially through the Paula’s Ibiza collections, while brands like Prada, Bottega Veneta, Celine, Saint Laurent and Chloe keep making woven textures feel incredibly elevated.
I also love how raffia bags instantly make an outfit feel warmer and more effortless. They don’t try too hard, which honestly feels very aligned with fashion right now.
The Larger Bags Shaping Summer Style Right Now
Summer somehow makes larger bags feel more attractive again. Maybe because the days are longer, you’re constantly moving around, and everything feels a little less structured overall.
The oversized bags I’m loving right now aren’t the super formal totes that feel more office than vacation. They’re the softer, easy-to-carry bags that become part of the entire summer look… oversized raffia bags, relaxed shoulder bags, slouchier silhouettes that fit far more than they probably should.
They work for the kind of summer days that rarely stay planned. You leave for breakfast or the beach and suddenly the day turns into shopping, drinks, dinner, sunset walks, or traveling somewhere else entirely.
And visually, oversized bags just bring something very effortless to summer outfits. They make simple pieces feel more interesting without needing much else… white cotton dresses, linen sets, flat sandals, oversized sunglasses, swimwear underneath, skin still a little salty from being outside all day.
The Summer Collection Bags I Keep Thinking About
What I especially love about the summer collections this year is that many of the raffia and woven bags no longer feel limited to the beach. The best ones feel chic enough for lunches, shopping, dinners, traveling, and all those summer days that somehow start casually and end much later than expected.
Some of my personal favorites are the Chanel mini shopping bag in braided raffia and gold-toned metal, also the raffia-effect fabric version which feels incredibly cool and modern for summer. I also love the Alaïa One Piece Demi Lune bag in paper straw…simple, sculptural, and elegant without feeling too serious.
Miu Miu’s raffia handbags feel playful in the best way, while the Fendi Fendigraphy mini woven raffia-effect bag feels perfect for summer day-to-night plans because of how many different ways you can wear it.
One bag I genuinely love this season is the Chloé Summer Banana hobo bag in raffia. The relaxed shape, the different color options, the effortless feeling of it… it captures summer perfectly.
Prada also continues doing summer bags beautifully. The wicker and leather Arqué bag already feels like a classic, and the large crochet tote with leather details from the new collection is easily one of my favorite oversized bags this season.
I’m also obsessed with the Large Triomphe Beads basket in sisal and calfskin from Celine. It feels incredibly luxurious while still keeping that natural summer texture.
And finally, one of the bags I keep thinking about is the Loewe Medium Eclipse basket in raffia and calfskin. The combination of materials is beautiful, but the red version especially completely fascinates me. It feels bold, chic, and very Mediterranean summer in the best possible way.
